Pizzica Workshop

The Hunters Dance and Danteatro invite you to join a

Pizzica Dance Workshop

led by Anna Cerreto and Cecilia Maza

Places are strictly limited, so book today to secure a place.

Originating in Puglia, Southern Italy, Pizzica belongs to a group of dances known as the Tarantella. It is an ancient dance performed to heal the bite of the “taranta” – the mythical spider believed to cause depression, restlessness and other afflictions.

Pizzica music and steps connect the dancer with the Earth and cosmos. Surrounded by the community playing and singing, the dancer enters a trance that enables healing.

In this workshop Anna and Cecilia will share the stories, myths and rhythm of Pizzica, teaching basic steps and choreography. Movements will be built up through dancing in couples to traditional and contemporary Pizzica music.

Pizzica is traditionally danced by whole communities, so no dance experience is necessary.

Everyone is welcome!
